President Jackson Selected for New York Stock Exchange Board

President Shirley Ann Jackson has been named as one of eight candidates for a reconstituted board of directors at the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE). The announcement was made by NYSE Interim Chairman and CEO John S. Reed on Nov. 5, as part of an overall package of proposals to restructure how the exchange is governed. More

President’s Science Adviser To Deliver Rensselaer Presidential Lecture Nov. 14
The Honorable John H. Marburger III, science adviser to President George W. Bush and director of the Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP), will deliver a lecture on “National Priorities in Science and Technology Policy” at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute on Nov 14. The 11 a.m. lecture will be held in the Heffner Alumni House, and is free and open to the public. More

Achille Messac, associate professor of mechanical, aerospace, and nuclear engineering, has been elected a fellow of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME). Messac is being honored for “pioneering contributions to the field of control structure integrated design, which later led to the broader field of Multidisciplinary Design Optimization (MDO).” According to ASME, Messac has made “seminal contributions in the field of deployment dynamics for shuttle and space station applications. He developed the physical programming method, which makes optimization easily accessible to industry engineers.” More

Lally’s Severino Center To Host Women in Entrepreneurship Seminar

More than 100 businesspeople, entrepreneurs, and students will gather at the Heffner Alumni House Wednesday, Nov. 12 for the second annual Women in Entrepreneurship seminar. During the event, several prominent businesswomen — including Kay Koplovitz, world-renowned entrepreneur, venture capitalist, founder of media company USA Networks, and author of Bold Women, Big Ideas: Learning to Play the High Risk Entrepreneurial Game — will discuss entrepreneurship in today’s economy.
