Dennis Tito to Speak at Rensselaer Nov. 14
 Dennis
Tito '64, founder and president of Wilshire Associates Inc. and
inventor of the Wilshire 5000 index, will participate in the Rensselaer
Alumni Association (RAA) Back-to-Campus Speaker Series Thursday,
Nov. 14 at 4 p.m. in the Heffner Alumni House.
Tito is world-renowned for building his large
and extremely successful investment advisory company, which developed
what is widely held to be Alan Greenspan's favorite market indicator.
He is also the first tourist to go to the International Space
Station.
The Speaker Series lecture, titled "A Conversation
with Dennis Tito," will take place in the Heffner Alumni
House's Great Room at 4 p.m. with a reception to follow at 5 p.m.
in the Alumni Conference Center. The lecture and reception are
free and open to the public. It will be structured as an informal
discussion between Tito and Denis Fred Simon, dean of Rensselaer's
Lally School of Management and Technology. The discussion will
touch on such topics as the state of today's economy and where
students should focus their career goals and entrepreneurial efforts.
"Dennis Tito's experiences exemplify the
spirit of innovation that we encourage at Rensselaer," said
Simon. "He has a lot of wisdom and advice to offer our students
and aspiring entrepreneurs. He is truly a shining example of what
our graduates can become."
On Friday, Nov. 15, Tito will travel to Rensselaer's
Hartford campus to receive the RAA Hartford Chapter's 2002 Distinguished
Alumnus Award. President Jackson will present the honor at a ceremony
and reception from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the Hartford Club in Hartford.
The award recognizes Tito's life achievements. Tito earned a master's
degree in engineering science from Rensselaer at Hartford in 1964.
