  EMPAC Plans Submitted to Troy Planning Commission
 


Rensselaer submitted conceptual site plans for the proposed Experimental Media and Performing Arts Center (EMPAC) at a public meeting of the Troy City Planning Commission on Nov. 14.

The commission recommended scheduling a future workshop session for a comprehensive review of the project. A date for that meeting has not yet been set. More

Science Visionary to Discuss Cloning at Trustee Celebration of Faculty Achievement

Michael West '76, science visionary at the center of the national debate over human cloning, will be the keynote speaker at the 2002 Trustee Celebration of Faculty Achievement. The event, sponsored by the Rensselaer Board of Trustees, will take place Thursday, Dec. 5, beginning with West's address at 4 p.m. in room 308 of the Darrin Communications Center. Following the lecture, President Shirley Ann Jackson and the trustees will recognize and honor faculty achievement during a reception at the Russell Sage Dining Hall. Speeding Up Cancer Research

A promising approach to fighting cancer is to shut off a tumor's blood supply by preventing new capillaries from forming in abnormal tissue. For this to happen, researchers must understand how the blood vessels form in tumors. Rensselaer researchers have developed an automated system to map these blood vessel networks. More

Heads Up! IED Students to Present Final Projects Dec. 6

Bouncing and flying balls will abound as students present their final projects in Introduction to Engineering Design (IED) on Friday, Dec. 6, from 4 to 7 p.m. in the Great Hall of the Darrin Communications Center. The entire campus is invited to attend. More

Leon Lederman, Nobel Prize-winner and internationally renowned particle physicist, will discuss his unique ideas for pre-college education when he delivers the seventh annual Robert Resnick Lecture Wednesday, Nov. 20 at Rensselaer. The talk, titled "A Vision of 21st Century Science Education," will take place at 4 p.m. in room 3303 of the Russell Sage Laboratory. Refreshments will precede the lecture at 3:30 p.m. More

Thiagarajan Ravichandran, associate professor in Rensselaer's Lally School of Management and Technology, has found that organizations that invested in IT to enhance their core competencies (the areas where they are already strong) have been successful. Those that have spent broadly on IT have not seen significant returns. More
