EMPAC Plans Submitted to Troy Planning Commission
Rensselaer submitted conceptual site plans for
the proposed Experimental Media and Performing Arts Center (EMPAC)
at a public meeting of the Troy City Planning Commission on Nov.
14.
The commission recommended scheduling a future
workshop session for a comprehensive review of the project. A
date for that meeting has not yet been set.

"This building is still in the schematic
design phase and is evolving in terms of its architecture,"
said Claude Rounds, vice president for administration. "As
we continue to discuss the building with the Planning Commission,
you may see further evolution of the design."
The 160,000-square-foot facility will be built
on the hill above Eighth Street near Folsom Library. At a cost
of approximately $140 million, the Experimental Media and Performing
Arts Center will extend the Institute's distinctive position in
electronic arts and communication and enhance traditional and
classical performing arts. The center is expected to open in 2006.
