Businesswomen to Discuss Entrepreneurship at Rensselaer
Nov. 13

On Wednesday, Nov. 13, five successful businesswomen will explore the role of entrepreneurship in start-ups and corporations at the first Women in Entrepreneurship Seminar.

"This group of experts will give Rensselaer's female student population and area businesswomen a feel for real-world entrepreneurship, and show them why they should consider the 'road less traveled.'''
— Denis Fred Simon—

The free event, titled "Risks Taken… Lessons Learned," will take place from 8 a.m. to noon in the Russell Sage Dining Hall , and is open to the public. It will be hosted by the Severino Center for Technological Entrepreneurship at Rensselaer's Lally School of Management and Technology.

The morning's activities will begin with a networking breakfast, followed by a welcome address delivered by Mary Bayly '79, vice president of business development for Saratoga Technology Accelerator. Later, Sheila Talton, Rensselaer board member and president of change management service line for EDS' Solutions Consulting, will discuss entrepreneurship and intrapreneurship in the corporate environment.

The seminar will end with a panel discussion of innovation and entrepreneurship. Keri Calagna '02, CFO for Tiercent Corporation; Jeannette Oppedisano '92, educator/author; and Alethea Snyder, president/cofounder of the Tech Valley Angel Network will participate.

"This group of experts will give Rensselaer's female student population and area businesswomen a feel for real-world entrepreneurship, and show them why they should consider the 'road less traveled,'" said Denis Fred Simon, dean of Rensselaer's Lally School. "By sharing their personal experiences and wisdom, the speakers will shed light on what it takes to achieve entrepreneurial success in today's technology-focused environment. Women who want to own businesses or play innovative roles within large companies will learn about the corporate environment, the climb, the risks, and the possible outcomes."
