Around Campus: Week of November 5, 2001

Series of Accounting and Budgeting Seminars Scheduled
As part of its dedication to provide appropriate staff training, Rensselaer has commissioned PricewaterhouseCoopers, an accounting and professional services firm that serves 70 percent of the top private and public research universities, to deliver a series of four seminars on basic nonprofit accounting and budgeting principles and financial practices.

The first seminar, "Basic Accounting, Budgeting and Internal Control Concepts," will be held Friday, Nov. 16. Because a sizeable attendance is anticipated, two sessions will be offered--8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and 1 to 5 p.m. Both sessions will be held in Room 4050 of the Low Center for Industrial Innovation. Refreshments will be available.

The seminars are designed for those with or without an accounting background. The curriculum covers basic concepts for accounting and budgeting in a university environment and includes a discussion on the purpose and function of a facilities and administrative rate.
You must make a reservation. RSVP to Kathy Yannotti with preferred time slot at yannok@rpi.edu. Reservations will be taken on a "first-come, first-served" basis.

Can Your Parking Ticket!
Campus community members who receive a parking ticket between Oct. 30 and Nov. 9, 2001, have an opportunity to reduce the fine. The Rensselaer Parking & Shuttle Office is collecting donations of canned food for a local food pantry.

To receive your fine reduction, if your ticket is less than 10 days old, bring it to the Visitors Information Center along with a canned food item any time between 8:30 a.m. and 3:30 pm. Nov. 5 through Nov. 9. All donated canned goods will be given to a local food pantry for Thanksgiving.

Donations without tickets will be gladly accepted! The donated canned good must be presented upon payment of ticket (payment options are cash, check, or student account); the reduction is not valid for tickets that are appealed. 10/29/01
