Futurist To Discuss the Next Scientific
Revolution
Peter
Schwartz '68, internationally renowned futurist and business
strategist, will be the keynote speaker at the 2001 Trustee
Celebration of Faculty Achievement.
The event, sponsored by the Rensselaer Board
of Trustees, will take place Thursday, Nov. 29, beginning
with Schwartz's address at 4 p.m. in room 308 in the Darrin
Communications Center. His presentation, titled "The
Next Scientific Revolution," will address the interaction
of the frontiers of science and technology with the growth
in economic potential.
Following Schwartz's lecture, President
Shirley Ann Jackson and the trustees will recognize and
honor faculty achievement during a reception at the Russell
Sage Dining Hall at 5:15 p.m. The reception is open to the
entire campus community.
Schwartz, co-founder and chairman of Global
Business Network in California, works with corporations
and institutions to create alternative perspectives of the
future and develop strategies for a changing world.
His current research and scenario work encompass energy
resources and the environment, technology, financial services,
telecommunications, media and entertainment, aerospace,
national security, and the Asia-Pacific region.
Schwartz is the author of several books,
including The Art of the Long View: Planning for the
Future in an Uncertain World (Doubleday Currency, 1991),
which was named the top business book of 1992 by Industry
Week magazine. He received a B.S. in aeronautical engineering
and astronautics from Rensselaer. (Read more about
