Public Safety Bike Training

Public Safety officers took part in bike patrol training on April 25, conducted by Officer Jim Bottillo of Troy’s Community Policing program. The training included several drills requiring the participants to demonstrate command of the bike, including a 32-mile ride testing the participants’ skills shifting the bike, handling tough inclines and declines, and overall physical conditioning. “Bike Patrol is a very positive and effective means of patrol and allows for more interaction with students, faculty, and staff, said Lieutenant Joseph Audino. “Officers are required to respond to calls, take reports, and patrol all areas of the campus while on Bike Patrol, as if they were assigned a patrol car. The expectation is to perform crime-deterring patrols, be accessible to our community to increase awareness and communication, and to respond to calls for service.”
