Antonia Novello To Recount "Response
to Bioterrorism" at Reunion June 7
Dr. Antonia C. Novello, New York State Commissioner of Health,
will deliver a special address as part of Reunion 2002 on
Friday, June 7, at 3:30 p.m. in Room 308 of the Darrin Communications
Center.
Novello, the first woman and first Hispanic
to hold the position of U.S. Surgeon General, will recount
New York's response to the Sept. 11 attack on the World
Trade Center and the subsequent anthrax cases. A recognized
leader in bioterrorism response, she will discuss the need
for all states to strengthen their preparedness for future
terrorist attacks. She also will share how the new partnership
between Rensselaer, the Wadsworth Center of the NYS Department
of Health, Albany Medical Center, and other universities
through the Noble Enterprise Constellation will work toward
finding answers to other human health problems.
"The spirit of caring and cooperation
that began on Sept. 11 must continue as we work together
to protect our communities, our states, and our nation,"
Novello said.
A brief reception will follow the talk.
If you plan to attend, please RSVP to Kathy Kinsey, Reunion
director, at ext. 2832 or kinsek@rpi.edu.
