Vital Information Available During Construction

A comprehensive public information plan has been developed to keep the campus and local community apprised of the Institute's ongoing construction and development projects. The plan includes a series of monthly public meetings, a Web site, telephone and e-mail hotlines, and a monthly neighborhood bulletin.

"Rensselaer is committed to using every possible communication resource to keep the community informed of these construction projects," said Allison Newman, director of community relations.

  • Monthly Public Meetings
The first public meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, May 28, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., at the Heffner Alumni House. The meetings will provide an open forum for the exchange of construction information, ideas, questions, and concerns.

  • Web Site Created
A newly created Web site provides up-to-date information on construction activities, including shuttle bus information, project scope and overview, construction timeline and progress reports, public meeting schedules, maps, and contact information.

  • Telephone and E-mail Hotlines
A recorded telephone hotline is available 24 hours a day at (518) 276-8490. Callers can leave a message with questions or concerns and a Rensselaer staff member will return the call. Questions or concerns also can be addressed to build@rpi.edu.

  • Neighborhood Bulletin
A monthly project bulletin will be delivered via bulk mail to all residents and businesses within the neighborhoods surrounding the Institute. The bulletin contains the meeting and special event schedule, information about construction activities, road closings, parking regulations, alternate routes, utility shut-offs, and project manager names and contact information. To add your name to the mailing list, call (518) 276-8490 or e-mail build@rpi.edu.

  • Public Access TV
Rensselaer will utilize Time Warner Cable's local public access Channel 18 to post project information updates.

"Through these communication channels, we will notify the community, whenever possible, in advance of construction activities, road closings, and utility disruptions," said Newman.
