Henry Ehrlich, professor emeritus
of biology, recently wrote a book titled Geomicrobiology (fourth
edition, revised and expanded). The book, published by Marcel Dekker,
explores the role that microbes have played in specific geological processes-featuring
the most recent findings on the expanding microbial habitat. 4/29/02
James Moore, professor of chemistry, delivered an invited presentation titled "Synthesis, Characterization, and Properties of Polycarbonate-Containing Diphenolic Acid Repeat Units" at the Polymer Science: New Century Frontiers symposium in April. The meeting, at the University of Southern Mississippi, was attended by 75 of the world's leading polymer scientists, representing 50 of the most prestigious research universities and institutes in the world. 4/29/02
Tony Moore '03, an engineering major, earned first-place honors in the poster board contest at the 10th Annual Statewide Collegiate Science and Technology Entry Program Student Conference. Moore's presentation was titled "Production of Culture: African-American Perceptions in Media." 4/29/02
Faye Duchin, dean of humanities and social sciences and professor of economics, spoke at the opening colloquium, "Exploring the Many Dimensions of Sustainable Development," at MIT's annual Technology and Culture Forum on April 3 in Cambridge, Mass. Also, Duchin and John Gowdy, professor of economics, made presentations on "Nesting Economics in Ecology" at the Workshop on Humans and Nature at the Hastings Center, April 1-2, in Garrison, N.Y. 4/15/02
