Many graduates armed with an MBA are still
in the process of finding jobs, but those who have accepted
offers have reported salaries as high as $140,000, according
to Therese Stillman, director of Lally Career Resources.
Some of the most recruited majors at Rensselaer
are computer and systems engineering, chemical engineering,
and computer science. Averaging starting salaries for those
equipped with a bachelor's degree in those fields are about
$55,000. Those with a master's degree are reporting starting
salaries averaging $72,500 in computer science and $65,000
in computer and systems engineering.
One example is Jelani Cowan '02, who will
receive his bachelor's in information technology with an
emphasis on finance. He recently accepted a $72,000 offer
to work in Texas Instruments' Wireless Connectivity Department.
Stephen Horne '02, a computer science major, has accepted
a $60,000 job as a computer programmer at Microsoft in Seattle.
