Accolades: May 13, 2002

Roger Grice, clinical assistant professor of language, literature, and communication, was one of three professors who received the Interfraternity Council and Pan-Hellenic Association's Outstanding Professor of the Year Award for the 2001-2002 Academic Year. 5/13/01

Michael Halloran, professor of language, literature, and communication, will receive the George Yoos Distinguished Service Award of the Rhetoric Society of America at its annual conference at the end of May. 5/13/01

Richard Lahey, the Edward E. Hood Professor of Engineering at Rensselaer, spoke at General Electric Research & Development in Niskayuna on May 2 on "Sonoluminescence and the Search for Bubble Fusion." The event was co sponsored by GE and the American Nuclear Society. Lahey also spoke on May 3 at Columbia University's Applied Physics Department, where he showed a movie of the sonoluminescence experiment. 5/13/01

The Jay R. Gould/Rensselaer Student Chapter of the Society for Technical Communication (STC) was given the Pacesetter Award by the board of directors of STC at its annual conference May 5-8 in Nashville. The award citation honors "outstanding efforts made to provide technical communication job market knowledge and employment assistance to RPI students." 5/13/01

Henry Ehrlich, professor emeritus of biology, recently wrote a book titled Geomicrobiology (fourth edition, revised and expanded). The book, published by Marcel Dekker, explores the role that microbes have played in specific geological processes-featuring the most recent findings on the expanding microbial habitat. 4/29/02

James Moore, professor of chemistry, delivered an invited presentation titled "Synthesis, Characterization, and Properties of Polycarbonate-Containing Diphenolic Acid Repeat Units" at the Polymer Science: New Century Frontiers symposium in April. The meeting, at the University of Southern Mississippi, was attended by 75 of the world's leading polymer scientists, representing 50 of the most prestigious research universities and institutes in the world. 4/29/02

Tony Moore '03, an engineering major, earned first-place honors in the poster board contest at the 10th Annual Statewide Collegiate Science and Technology Entry Program Student Conference. Moore's presentation was titled "Production of Culture: African-American Perceptions in Media." 4/29/02

Faye Duchin, dean of humanities and social sciences and professor of economics, spoke at the opening colloquium, "Exploring the Many Dimensions of Sustainable Development," at MIT's annual Technology and Culture Forum on April 3 in Cambridge, Mass. Also, Duchin and John Gowdy, professor of economics, made presentations on "Nesting Economics in Ecology" at the Workshop on Humans and Nature at the Hastings Center, April 1-2, in Garrison, N.Y. 4/15/02
