Construction Parking and Shuttle Plans
Announced
An interim parking plan and shuttle bus
schedule has been developed to accommodate the campus community
during construction of the new parking garage and the Center
for Biotechnology and Interdisciplinary Studies.

Field House Parking and Shuttle
The Houston Field House lots will provide the majority of
campus parking during the construction phases for both the
biotechnology center (which will break ground May 17) and
the parking garage, says Claude Rounds, vice president for
administration.
A system of shuttle buses will operate between
the Field House and the main campus, with stops at the Rensselaer
Union and the northeast corner of the Jonsson Engineering
Center.
The buses will operate Monday through Friday,
from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. After hours, a Public Safety escort
service will be available. The shuttle bus schedule will
be posted at http://www.rpi.edu/dept/gov/
construct/shuttle.html. Or you can go to www.rpi.edu/build
and click on the shuttle bus icon at the right of your screen.
All shuttle bus drivers will be Public Safety
Specialists who will undergo safety awareness and security
training. Buses are operated under the supervision of the
Department of Public Safety and drivers will be in direct
radio communications with that office, says Rounds.
Temporary Relocation Plans
Faculty and staff who park in the South Campus will be relocated
to other core campus parking such as the Alumni Sports and
Recreation Center, Robison Field lot, Commons West lot,
Hall Hall lot, and North Lot.
Much of the existing parking lot in Academy
Hall will be used for construction staging on the new garage.
A temporary lot will be available there for a limited number
of cars.
The interim proposal calls for the relocation
of students with commuter permits to the Field House, where
they will be given preference for parking even during hockey
games. Rounds said campus parking surveys indicated a substantial
need for safe commuter parking. Commuters will have access
to core parking during evenings, weekends, and holidays.
There will be a nominal charge of $20 per commuter permit.
