Students Form AIGA Chapter
Students interested in graphic design have formed an affiliate student group of the Upstate New York Chapter of the American Institute of Graphic Arts (AIGA) at Rensselaer. The AIGA is the leading membership organization for professionals engaged in graphic design.

Audrey Bennett, assistant professor of graphics at Rensselaer and a member of the board of directors of the Upstate New York Chapter of AIGA, founded the group with 23 undergraduate and graduate student members. Bennett, the faculty adviser for the group, says she initiated the group as a way of encouraging students to take the first step in demonstrating a commitment to their professional interest and assisting them in understanding the broad profession of graphic design.

The Rensselaer group represents the largest student membership in the Upstate New York Chapter.

The CCNA program has already been given at the Troy campus and produced more than 80 certified professionals. David Kotfila, Rensselaer's Cisco Academy director and a Cisco-certified network professional, developed the dynamic, hands-on course for undergraduate students and is now offering it to working professionals in the Hartford area. 4/29/02

Site Work Begins on South Campus;
Parking Restrictions in Some Lots
In preparation for the start of new construction on the south campus, Hartgen Archeological Associates have begun Phase 2 site exploration in Parking Lot 20. Hartgen will perform artifact recovery and documentation in the lot, due west of the Gate House, where worker housing existed in the 19th century. Approximately 15 to 20 parking spaces will be lost as this process begins. The balance of Lot 20 will be closed after May 3. The lots south of Cogswell (Lots 21B, 21A, and 18) will be closed after May 20.

McCarthy Construction will commence with minor roadwork on or about May 3, including grading of a new temporary lot and staging area west of Lot 23. Approximately 10 parking spots will be temporarily lost until the new lot becomes available in mid-May.

If you have questions, contact Oleh Turczak, manager for capital projects, at ext. 8239 or turczo@rpi.edu. 4/22/02
