NAE and Rensselaer to Host Symposium on Biotechnology

  The National Academy of Engineering and Rensselaer are co-hosting a Symposium on Biotechnology featuring some of the biggest names in the field. The symposium is free and open to the public. It begins at 2 p.m. on Thursday, April 3, in room 308 of the Darrin Communications Center. More

Dimitri Grivas, professor of civil and environmental engineering, is taking the concept of ground-penetrating radar (GPR) above ground. Grivas is enhancing the technology to take the guesswork out of seeing what’s inside major infrastructure such as bridges, pipelines, and buildings. The danger of a future Exxon Valdez disaster in Alaska’s Prince William Sound has declined substantially since the state of Alaska, environmentalists, oil companies, and the fishing industry brought together a risk management team, according to a study in a journal of the Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences (INFORMS).
