“The Unamerican Film Festival” Premieres at C+CC March 24
“The Unamerican Film Festival” premieres in the Capital Region at 7 p.m. on Monday, March 24, at Rensselaer’s Chapel + Cultural Center, 2125 Burdett Ave., in Troy. The screening is to benefit WRPI Troy, 91.5 FM.

The Unamerican Film Festival is a volunteer-run, non-corporate-sponsored event named after the House Un-American Activities Committee (HUAC), the arm of Congress that probed Hollywood for communists in the 1950s. "The goal of the Unamerican Film Festival is to promote films and socially conscience ideas that are underrepresented or neglected by the mainstream media," explained festival director and filmmaker Esther Bell. "In a time when democracy and freedom are being outlawed in the name of homeland security, it is more important than ever to promote artists of all genres whose work strives to preserve the democratic ideals upon which the United States was founded."

For the complete lineup of films and other information about the festival, visit the Web site at www.unamericanfilmfestival.com. For additional information about this local screening, contact Steve Pierce at 766-6095. For more shows at the Chapel + Cultural Center, go to http://www.rpi.edu/web/C+CC/ccc/schedule.html 3/17/03
