RAA Fellows Award: Claire Fraser '77
Claire
Fraser '77, president of The Institute for Genomic Research
(TIGR) in Rockville, Maryland, will be recognized with the
Rensselaer Alumni Association Fellows Award from the School
of Science. The presentation will be made as part of an
event titled "Rensselaer at the Cutting Edge: Genomics
and Beyond," on Wednesday, March 13, at the TIGR headquarters.
The event is sponsored by the Baltimore/Washington, D.C.
regional alumni chapters.
The Rensselaer Alumni Association Fellows
Award honors those individuals who, by their achievements
in a chosen profession or endeavor or by their service to
the Institute, have set an example for Rensselaer men and
women to emulate. To date, 111 RAA Fellows Awards have been
presented.
In January, Fraser was recognized by Newsweek
magazine as "one of seven players to watch in the coming
year and beyond." She was also selected as one of Maryland's
Top 100 Women in 1997 and 2000.
Fraser has been published in more than 130
publications in leading scientific journals, is currently
serving on the Editorial Board of The Journal of Biological
Chemistry and Comparative and Microbial Genomes, and
is a member of six professional societies.
Fraser received a bachelor's degree in biology
from Rensselaer in 1977 and a Ph.D. in pharmacology from
the State University of New York at Buffalo in 1981. She
is a member of Rensselaer's B.F. Greene Society of Patroons.
