Alumni Association Presents Annual Awards During Reunion Weekend

The Rensselaer Alumni Association (RAA) presented the 2003 RAA Awards at its annual awards dinner Friday, June 13, as part of Reunion weekend.

The Distinguished Service Award, the highest award the association bestows, was presented to Harvey Zeve '52.

The Albert Fox Demers Medals, the second highest award the association bestows, was presented to John Buckley '49 (posthumously), Arthur Goldstein '53, Nancy Mueller, and Paul Severino '69.

The Alumni Key Award, which recognizes outstanding service supporting the advancement of Rensselaer (such as chapters, classes, fund raising, and special events), was given to Richard Bollam '66, John Broadbent Jr. '59, Susan Brownell '79, Nicholas Donofrio '67, Steven Paris '78, Joseph Pilaro '55, Henry Scheuer '69 and Jesse Treu '68.

The RAA Teaching Award, designed to recognize current members of the Rensselaer Faculty for their outstanding teaching techniques, contributions to the campus experience and commitment to students, was presented to Mark Mistur '83, Professor and Associate Dean of Architecture.

The Director's Award, presented by the Office of Alumni Relations to individuals who have made significant contributions to the success of the Office of Alumni Relations and to the Rensselaer Alumni Association, went to Amy Gennarini '03, Wesley Horbatuck '83, Martin Kosto '99, Kenneth Mortenson '47, Alan Shibley, and Lisa Trahan.

The Alumni Admissions Recognition of Excellence Award was given to Dudley Smith Jr. '88.

The Craig W. Angell '35 Chapter of the Year Award went to the Rensselaer Chapter of Boston and its president, Curt Hunnewell '97.

The Chuck Monis '50 Most Improved Chapter of the Year Award went to the Rensselaer Triangle Chapter in Raleigh, N.C., and its president, Jeff Freed '83.

The Special Recognition for Rensselaer Alumni Chapters was presented to the Rensselaer Chapter of Hartford and its leaders, Christine DeCarlo '87 and Wesley Horbatuck '83.

The Alumni Phonathon Award for Top Fundraiser was taken by the Westchester Phonathon. Chair of the phonathon is Karen Lynch '87 and assistant chairs are Michael Wellner '64, Richard Koser '64 and David Campbell '79.

The Alumni Phonathon Award for the Biggest Increase in Volunteer Callers went to the New York City Phonathon and chair Henry Scheuer '69.

The Alumni Phonathon Award for the Highest Percent of Potential Corporate Match was won by the Capital District / MBA Phonathon and its chair, Pickett T. Simpson '57, and assistant chair, Allan Demarest '94.

The RAA Team of the Year Award was given to the 2002 Baseball Team.
