Ray Fouche, assistant
professor of science and technology studies, was invited to give
a lecture titled “From Analog to Digital: Race, Racism,
and Technological Production” at MIT's STS department in
their colloquia series. He was also invited to participate in
and give a lecture at a workshop organized by the Lemelson-MIT
program, titled "Historical Perspectives on Invention and

Jeffrey Hannigan, associate professor
of science and technology studies, presented "The Robots
Gaze," a multimedia program on how the robots that have appeared
in films reflect evolving attitudes about culture and technology
at the University of the Arts, Philadelphia, the Maryland Art
Institute, the Art Institute of Chicago, and the School of Architecture
and Planning at University of Wisconsin Milwaukee. 6/30/03

John Harrington,
dean of humanities and social sciences at Rensselaer and president
of the American Conference on Irish Studies (ACIS), convened the
ACIS annual meeting in at St. Thomas University in Minneapolis,
June 4-6. The following annual meetings in his tenure will be
held at the British Institute for Irish Studies at the University
of Liverpool and at the Keogh Center for Irish Studies at Notre

Linda Layne, professor of science
and technology studies, was the invited speaker at the Metropolitan
Medical Anthropology Association in April, held at City University
of NY Graduate Center. 6/30/03

Ryan Quiller ’03, a pole
vaulter with a 4.0 cumulative grade point average as a math and
physics dual major, has been selected to the 2003 Verizon College
Division Men's Track & Field/Cross Country National Academic
All-America First Team as selected by the College Sports Information
Directors of America (CoSIDA). In addition, Sharath Alampur
’04, who competes in the triple jump., Jeff
Banks, a graduate student who competes in the pole vault,
have both been named to the National Second Team. All three men
were previously chosen to the All-District I First Team. 6/30/03

of Agricultural and Resource Economics at UC-Berkeley on "Modeling
Technological Change and Capital Accumulation in the Economy and
