Ongoing work will include construction of new gates and associated work; final grading, paving, and striping; new catch basins and storm lines; new lighting and conduits; new pedestrian path and security work; and, all sidewalk related work on College Avenue.

Construction activity also will limit access to the pedestrian paths from the west side of the lot in the area to the north and east of Cogswell. This work will include installation of new ductbank, sewer, chilled water lines, steam and condensate lines that cross through the area near the existing substation and the pedestrian crossing. The lots to the east of Cogswell will continue to be staging areas or will be excavated through the summer. Workers will be actively digging up the east end of the research quad. Both of those areas will be closed to pedestrians but there will be access to the ADA parking area in the research quad. Pedestrians will not be able to cross into the construction activity.

According to Allison Newman, director of community relations, these projects have been timed for the summer months to minimize impact. Work should be complete and the lot returned to full capacity in time for the fall semester. For more on campus construction projects, go to http://www.rpi.edu/dept/gov/construct/index.html. 5/19/03
