Rensselaer Team Scores Big at Corporate
Challenge Race
A
team of four Rensselaer staff members took home overall
fourth place in the 2003 GHI Corporate Challenge Race out
of nearly 4,000 participants and more than 400 company teams.
Dozens of Rensselaer runners and walkers
took part in the 3.5-mile challenge in downtown Albany on
May 22. The race is one of the largest participatory corporate
sporting events in the United States and the largest road
race in the Capital Region. The Corporate Challenge Series
culminates in a championship race for first-place winners
in New York City's Central Park this fall.
Rensselaer’s
top-placing team members were Norris Pearson, manager of
conference services at the Houston Field House; research
assistant Ken Morgan; Daniele Cherniak, research associate
professor in earth and environmental sciences; and Ginny
Moore-Bradley, registration manager in student records and
financial services.
Teams from companies throughout the region
come to run for fun, camaraderie, and to promote teamwork.
At Rensselaer, 43 employees participated this year, the
largest group ever, according to Cameron McLean, activities
coordinator at the Rensselaer Union and one of the Rensselaer
team organizers.
“When you look at the campus spirit
that came out of being part of this race, we’re all
winners,” McLean said.
