Rensselaer at Hartford Professor Named to United Nations Delegation
William Luddy Jr., professor of management at Rensselaer at Hartford, was named to the U.S. delegation to the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL). He participated in the UNCITRAL Working Group on E-Commerce at its March session in New York.
UNCITRAL, established by the UN General Assembly in 1966, is the core legal body of the United Nations in the field of international trade law.
"UNCITRAL is focused, in part, on global e-commerce and its reach is very broad," Luddy said. "There is a strong commitment not only to enhance e-commerce trade in the developed world, but also to bring the benefits of international trade to developing nations."
Luddy (www.rh.edu/~wjl/) has worked in the field of global e-commerce and IT policy development for a number of years. In addition to his 27 years on the Rensselaer faculty, his practice of law has included Internet and e-commerce law, intellectual property law, corporate development and ventures, and international commercial agreements and strategic alliances.
"Professor Luddy is participating in shaping the international policies that will govern global trade and development in the future and then bringing that knowledge to the classroom and to his research and writing," said David Rainey, acting vice president of Rensselaer at Hartford. "This is exactly the type of high-level involvement that directly benefits Rensselaer and its working professional students."
Luddy has a J.D. degree from the University of Connecticut School of Law, an M.S. in management from Rensselaer, and a B.S. in finance from Fairfield University. He is admitted to practice before the Connecticut and federal courts. |
