Samuel Wait Jr. ’53
Sam Wait was recognized with the Rensselaer
Alumni Association (RAA) Fellows Award from the Office of
the Dean of Science and the Department of Chemistry on June
13 at the Reunion 2003 “Lunch with the Dean of Science.”

Wait, associate dean of science and professor
of chemistry, received a B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. in chemistry
from Rensselaer in 1953, 1955, and 1956 respectively.
Wait has been a volunteer for Rensselaer
in many roles, including president of the Class of 1953,
chair of his 50th Anniversary Reunion Planning Committee,
chair of the Rensselaer Annual Fund Faculty/Staff Campaign,
and member of the RAA Awards Committee. Wait and his wife,
Carol, are members of the Amos Eaton Society of Patroons.
The RAA has honored Wait many times, including
the Albert Fox Demers Medal in 1997, the Alumni Key Award
in 1994, the Alumni Admissions Recognition of Excellence
Award in 1993, and the RAA Faculty Award in 1988.
The Rensselaer Alumni Association Fellows
Award was created to honor those alumni or non-alumni of
Rensselaer who, by their achievements in a chosen profession
or endeavor or by their service to the Institute, have set
an example for Rensselaer men and women to emulate.
