"Incubator.com" Launched as
Central Resource for Incubators, Entrepreneurs, and Investors
After extensive development by students
in various IT and management courses, Rensselaer's Incubator
Program launched a new Web portal for the entrepreneurial
community this past May at the International Conference
on Business Incubation in Toronto. The new student-run site,
aptly located at www.Incubator.com,
aims to unite incubators, start-ups and venture capitalists
worldwide in one virtual network and provide valuable business
resources online for members.

First and perhaps foremost for subscribers
to the site, Incubator.com houses a searchable database
of university-affiliated and privately owned incubators,
investors, and companies. The free service enables users
to list their profiles, post their business plans, search
for venture capital, and network with others in their industries.
But Incubator.com also contains links to information on
human resources matters, legal advice, and other relevant
issues; a news feed of breaking financial information; and
a calendar of events, to name just a few of its features.

So far, about 150 incubators, 725
venture capitalists, and 200 companies have already
registered with the site. It receives around 8,000 hits
per week; 1,000 per week come from unique visitors.
What's more, it has made $20,000 from selling a technology
module to a major government organization. Not bad for
a months-old Web site.
