Von Maltzahn Named New Associate Vice
President for Research

Wolf von Maltzahn, vice president of biomedical
engineering at the Whitaker Foundation, has been named the
new associate vice president for research beginning in August.
Von Maltzahn is also appointed as professor in the department
of biomedical engineering.
In this new position, von Maltzahn will
be responsible for faculty infrastructure and support services
and will oversee the Office of Contracts and Grants. Von
Maltzahn will work with faculty on proposal preparation
and coordinate the development of major proposal with faculty
teams. In addition, he will work with the director of research
development to build partnerships with federal and state
agencies, corporate and institutional partners, and foundations,
with special attention to programs in bioscience and biotechnology.

von Maltzahn's caliber join Rensselaer. His experience will
serve us well to expand our research programs and improve
communication among our faculty, the Office of Research,
and funding agencies. He is prepared to help faculty better
navigate the ins and outs of proposal preparation,"
said Art Sanderson, vice president for research.
At the Whitaker Foundation, von Maltzahn
is actively involved in setting and implementing funding
policies for the foundation. In addition, he directs two
biomedical grants programs whose expenditures exceed $18
million. His office also processes and evaluates approximately
500 grant applications per year.
