Business Review "Book of Lists"
The
Capital District Business Review has published its
annual Book of Lists for 2001-2002. The book contains 82
lists about businesses and organizations that were published
in the Business Review from June 2001 through May
2002.
Rensselaer appears several
times in the listings. In the "Area's Best Private-Sector
Employers" list, Rensselaer is ranked ninth. Criteria
included things such as retirement plan, a company fitness
program, health benefits, vacation and personal time, and
higher education benefits. Rensselaer is No. 14 on the "Area's
Largest Private-Sector Employers" list, which is ranked
by number of full-time equivalent employees. Rensselaer
has 1,720; GE, ranked first, has approximately 9,200.
Other lists include "Area's
Largest MBA Programs," where Rensselaer is listed No.
2 behind the University at Albany; "Area's Largest
Colleges & Universities," which ranks by number
of fall 2001 full-time equivalent students and places Rensselaer
at No. 3; the "Area's Largest Patent Holders"
lists Rensselaer as No. 4; "Area's Oldest Businesses"
lists Rensselaer, which was founded in 1824, at No. 5 (No.
1 Union College was founded in 1795).
The "Area's Largest Defense
Contractors" list ranks Rensselaer at No. 9 and the
"Area's Largest Industrial Parks" ranks the Rensselaer
Technology Park at No. 7.
