Biotechnology Efforts Receive $1.2 Million Boost

Rensselaer has received $1.2 million from the Howard Hughes Medical Institute to improve undergraduate science education through the development of new biotechnology-related courses and student and faculty exchanges with other universities. A total of $80 million was given to 44 research universities across the country. More

Flaherty Announces New Terahertz Center
Keck Foundation Grants $1 Million to Create New Lab
On July 3, Science Dean Joseph Flaherty announced the opening of Rensselaer's Center for Terahertz Research. Two days later, the Institute received word that the W.M. Keck Foundation has awarded Rensselaer $1 million to establish the W.M. Keck Laboratory for Terahertz Science within the new research center.

Von Maltzahn Named New Associate Vice President for Research
Wolf von Maltzahn, vice president of biomedical engineering at the Whitaker Foundation, has been named the new associate vice president for research beginning in August. Von Maltzahn is also appointed as professor in the department of biomedical engineering. More

Business Review "Book of Lists"
The Capital District Business Review has published its annual Book of Lists for 2001-2002. The book contains 82 lists about businesses and organizations that were published in the Business Review from June 2001 through May 2002. In the "Area's Best Private-Sector Employers" list, Rensselaer is ranked ninth. Rensselaer is No. 14 on the "Area's Largest Private-Sector Employers" list. More

Rensselaer is one of the schools featured in the 2002-2003 Kaplan college guide, The Unofficial, Unbiased, Insider's Guide to the 320 Most Interesting Colleges (Kaplan Inc./Simon & Schuster). More

This month's public information meeting will be held Monday, July 22, from 5:30 - 7:30 pm to be held on the lower level of the Heffner Alumni House.
