Rensselaer
and the Business Council of New York State will take the
lead in bringing together a coalition of private sector
institutions to increase federal research dollars for projects
in the Empire State.
The partnership, to be called The New York
Research Coalition, was announced at Rensselaer, Monday,
June 24, by Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-NY). Senator
Clinton met at Rensselaer with chief executives of New York
colleges and universities. Presidents of more than 20 New
York schools gathered at the Heffner Alumni House for a
roundtable discussion of higher education and economic issues.
"Upstate New York is blessed
with some of the finest colleges, community colleges,
and universities in the world. But to ensure that we
stay at the cutting edge in research and development,
we need to ensure that we maximize federal, state, and
private sector support and take advantage of every resource
that is available."
