Rensselaer researchers have been featured recently
in major national and international media, and on various news
Web sites. Here is a roundup of some of the major coverage:
- Science Times of the New
York Times, MSNBC.com, Washington
Post, and Space.com
feature Heidi Newberg's research on the discovery of a previously
unseen band of stars beyond the edge of the Milky Way. Newberg,
assistant professor of physics, and Fermilab's Brian Yanny are
co-lead investigators with the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS).
Their discovery received national coverage in USAToday,
the journal Science,
Scientific American, CNN.com, ABCNews.com,
Reuters, United Press International, the National
Geographic Channel, and international coverage in the Times
of India, BBCnews.com, Shanghai Daily News,
and from the Canadian Broadcasting Company.
- The Albany Times Union featured Badri
Roysam's RPI-Trace3D system, which can swiftly map capillaries
in a live tumor. The patent-pending system is currently in use
at the Harvard Medical School. Roysam's research has been featured
in Science Daily, ScienceBlog.com, and InteliHealth.com.
- The
Newhouse News Service featured Linda Layne's book Motherhood
Lost: A Feminist Account of Pregnancy Loss in America. Layne
challenges society and women's movements in particular to publicly
discuss the topic of miscarriage and to offer more helpful support
to "would-be" parents. Her book was reviewed by Slate.com's
book club.
- Newsday
highlighted Rensselaer professor Teofilo "Jun" Abrajano's
work as part of an international team of scientists who dispute
the widely held Noah's flood hypothesis, which maintains that
there was a bursting flood about 7,500 years ago in what is
now the Black Sea.
