Jeanne Jenkins, director of enrollment planning, was presented with the Outstanding Service Award by Rensselaer's United States Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps (AFROTC) detachment in a surprise ceremony Wednesday, Dec. 18. The honor recognizes an individual or an organization for providing exceptional support to the AFROTC, and for helping it fulfill its mission to cultivate leaders for the Air Force. Jenkins was Rensselaer's first recipient of the award. 1/13/03
Frank Lee, assistant professor, and Selmer Bringsjord, professor, both of cognitive science, were awarded a $266,000, three-year grant from Office of Naval Research for their project "A Computational Theory of Psychological Time: A Cognitive Architecture Analysis." 1/13/03
Michael Macri, a doctoral student working with Suvranu De, assistant professor of mechanical, aerospace, and nuclear engineering, has been awarded an outstanding young researcher fellowship for the second MIT Conference in Computational Fluid and Solid Mechanics, to be held in June. Macri's research involves the development of a novel mesh-free numerical scheme, the method of finite spheres, for the solution of problems involving very large deformations and strains including hypervelocity impacts. The fellowship, given to 124 young researchers from around the world, supports Macri's attendance at and travel to the conference. 1/13/03
Donald Siegel, professor and chair of economics, has been named an affiliate of the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation Industry Centers Program. Siegel also served on an Environmental Protection Agency Peer Review Panel for the Science to Achieve Results (STAR) Program and its grant initiative, "Corporate Environmental Behavior: Examining the Effectiveness of Government Interventions and Voluntary Initiatives," and has been named a visiting research professor at the International Centre for Corporate Social Responsibility of the University of Nottingham. 1/13/03

Jacquelyn Vandenbraak '03, president of the Rensselaer student chapter of the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating, and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE), was featured in the December 2002 issue of ASHRAE Insight. Rensselaer's ASHRAE chapter held its third annual career fair last fall featuring a technology show, a technical tour and seminar, and more. Some 15 architectural and engineering companies participated. 1/13/03
The Eastern College Athletic Conference has announced its Division III Football All-Stars and three Rensselaer student-athletes have been chosen. Named to the team, which includes players from all of the football-playing college and universities in Upstate New York, were senior offensive lineman Nate Doyle '03, wide receiver Evan Cochran '03, and defensive back Mike Defilippi '02. 1/13/03
