Massie has devised a computer-driven building process that dramatically cuts down on the cost of building a home while increasing overall quality. The Feb. 6 edition of the New York Times "Circuits" section featured engineering professor Michael Shur in a story about clothing that will one day have electronic functions and properties. According to the Times, clothing designers traditionally choose textiles based on their beauty, strength, or cost. Now they can choose them based on their ability to conduct electricity. More

New Software Will Further Advance Tissue Engineering

Rensselaer researchers have developed adaptive computer simulation software that promises to advance tissue engineering. This paves the way for new and safer implants and transplants engineered from human tissue. Better products mean safer implantations and less risk of patient rejection and infection. More

Fairchild Semiconductor Joins PDE Program

The departments of electrical, computer, and systems engineering (ECSE) and professional and distance education (PDE) have announced a new educational partnership with Fairchild Semiconductor, a major manufacturer of power semiconductors with design and manufacturing facilities worldwide. More than 30 Fairchild engineers in Utah, California, and Pennsylvania have begun graduate courses at Rensselaer, leading to a certificate in semiconductor power device technology. More

College Avenue Closed

Beginning on Monday, Feb. 10 at 6 a.m., College Avenue will be closed between the Rensselaer service gate "B" entrance and 8th Street.More
