Accolades

William Massie, associate professor of architecture, won the Third Annual MoMA/P.S.1 Young Architects Award. The award, sponsored by P.S.1 Contemporary Art Center and the Museum of Modern Art, is one of the most prestigious of its kind. Massie received the honor for building an urban beach in New York City. The beach included brightly colored artificial ponds and laser-cut steel structures. 2/10/03

Achille Messac, associate professor of mechanical, aeronautical, and nuclear engineering, has been elected general chair of the 10th Symposium on Multidisciplinary Analysis and Optimization, a major international conference hosted by American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) and the International Society for Structural and Multidisciplinary Optimization (ISSMO). Messac will bring the conference to Albany in September 2004, and plans for Rensselaer students and faculty to play a leading role. Messac also currently serves as the chair of the AIAA MDO Technical Committee. 2/10/03

Robert Veryzer, associate professor in Rensselaer's Lally School of Management and Technology, has written a chapter titled "Marketing and the Development of Innovative New Products" for The International Handbook on Innovation. The publication-a compilation of research from leading academics around the world on the topic of innovation, its types and levels, its criteria, its development, its management, its specificity in various domains and contexts, and societal demands on it-addresses innovation from the viewpoints of psychology, sociology, technology, philosophy, and business, to name a few. It is due out in April. 2/10/03

The Rensselaer football team held its season-ending banquet recently and announced the team's award-winners for the 2002 season. Ten awards were handed out by 14th-year head coach Joe King and his staff, who led the Engineers to an 8-2 record and a win in the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Northeast Championship Game. Named co-Offensive Most Valuable Players were junior quarterback Dan Cole and senior wide receiver Evan Cochran.
