Former Student Union Director Dies
Frank
W. McNeil, who served as director of Rensselaer's Student
Union for 40 years, died Sunday, Feb. 24. He was 98.
Under McNeil's leadership, the Student Union
became more of a focal point than ever before for student
activities and government.
The plan for the current Union building
was initiated and completed under his guidance. Today, the
Rensselaer Union's main dining room, the McNeil Room, bears
his name.
McNeil, who retired from Rensselaer in 1969,
is remembered for his warm and outgoing personality. Born
in Schenectady, McNeil had resided most of his life in Troy.
He was educated at Troy High School and Troy Business College.
He was a recipient of the Albert Fox Demers
Medal, a member of Rensselaer's Athletic Hall of Fame, and
an honorary life member of the Association of College Unions.
McNeil also was a member of the Kiwanis
Club of Troy and the First United Presbyterian Church of
Troy. He was the church's financial secretary for many years.
Funeral service will be held Tuesday at
1 p.m. at Bryce Funeral Home, on the corner of Pawling and
