  Tracing Brain Neurons Becomes Automatic

Researchers at Rensselaer have developed a fast automated technique to map neurons in the brain that will make neuroscience research more efficient. This technique, which uses advanced algorithms to calculate data from the brain, will help researchers gain a solid base for understanding a variety of brain functions while saving technicians hours of tedious work manually tracing neurons. Bringing Robotics to a Seventh-Grade Classroom
Rensselaer's Center for Initiatives in Pre-College Education (CIPCE) has launched a pilot program to teach robotics to local 7th-graders. The idea is to interest at-risk students in the principles of engineering and science. More

Accelerated Program Offers Access to Graduate-Level Research Ahead of Schedule
Having completed the requirements for a B.S. in biochemistry and biophysics a year ahead of schedule, as a junior, Sarah Hobart, got on the Ph.D. fast track two years early. She expects to graduate from Rensselaer with her Ph.D. in 2004—three years ahead of the typical schedule. She is one of a handful of students who participate in the accelerated Ph.D. program at Rensselaer. More

Global Citizenship: Thinking Through 9/11
In response to the events of this past fall, Rensselaer's 9/11 Open Response Committee, with funding from the Office of Institute Diversity, has organized a seminar series, "Global Citizenship: Thinking Through 9/11." The series is designed to foster open and ongoing discussions on current issues and global topics of direct relevance to the Rensselaer community. The next seminar—"The Widening War: Rethinking Iraq After 9/11"— will be Tuesday, Feb. 26 at 4 to 6 p.m. in Room 308 of the Darrin Communications Center. More

Online Reservations for Commencement Picnic
Plans are under way for a festive campuswide picnic for graduates and their families following Commencement 2002. To aid in preparing for the picnic, the Office of University Events is requesting that each graduate register the number of guests who will attend at the Reservations for the Graduate Picnic page.
