* Engineers Women's Hockey Ranked Eighth in the Nation; Student-Athlete Brooke Thompson Named ECAC Rookie of the Week

Rensselaer's women's ice hockey team has won 10 straight games, including all nine in their league, to improve to 10-1-0 overall. The Engineers are ranked eighth in the nation, and are in first place in the ECAC East with a 9-0-0 mark. They have outscored their league opponents by 49 goals (55-6).

Last week the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) named student-athlete Brooke Thompson, of Rochester, N.Y., as the ECAC East Rookie of the Week in women's ice hockey.  In addition, U.S. College Hockey Online has selected the freshman forward, along with teammate Julie Aho of Ann Arbor, Mich., as a runner-up for National Division III Offensive Player of the Week.

The Engineers are scheduled to move to Division I next season, playing as an independent. They will join the ECAC Hockey League — the premier women's hockey league in the nation — the following season.

The Engineers, who are coached by John Burke, are idle until Jan. 8-9 when they travel to second place — and second-ranked — Manhattanville (9-0-1; 8-0-0 ECAC East) for two games.
