As a pioneer in interactive, hands-on education, Rensselaer is well-known for fostering an educational environment where students apply knowledge, interdisciplinary inquiry, and critical thinking to address global challenges.

"Dr. Hajela will be instrumental in helping Rensselaer maintain its leadership position in the development of innovative educational pedagogies and the utilization of technology to create a more effective learning environment," said Rensselaer Provost G.P. "Bud" Peterson. "He is highly respected by his colleagues and is committed to the well-being of the students and to Rensselaer’s academic programs."

"In today’s world and at Rensselaer, students need to develop a strong grasp of the fundamentals related to their specific fields," said Hajela. "They need to be aware of the geopolitical climate in which they will be performing and become comfortable in working in multicultural settings. I am excited to have this opportunity and look forward to working with my colleagues to further strengthen undergraduate programs."

Hajela holds a bachelor of technology degree in aeronautical engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology in Kanpur, India. He earned a master's degree in aerospace engineering from Iowa State University, a master's in mechanical engineering from Stanford University, and his doctorate in aeronautics and astronautics from Stanford University. He joined the Rensselaer faculty in 1990.
