Katrin Wesner Named Pillar of Rensselaer
The Pillars Award is presented annually to a staff member who understands the Institute's mission and history, has been a role model for other employees, has showed concern for students and their welfare, has added to the human dimension of the school, and who has played an active role in their home community. At the awards ceremony, Charles Carletta, secretary and general counsel of the Institute, quoted from nominations received for Wesner: "It is through Katrin's career that she has made her gifts available to students, staff, and faculty 24 hours a day, seven days a week, while never compromising integrity, humor, perspective, and 'joy of life.' All of which radiates each and every moment." Student Life Vice President Eddie Ade Knowles, who has worked with Wesner for more than 15 years, also applauded her contributions and leadership. "Katrin is, without question, a highly seasoned student life professional with high ethical values and an unwavering commitment to improving the quality of student life at Rensselaer," he said. "Her maturity, strength, sensitivity, commitment to excellence, and caring attitude are the hallmarks of what the Pillars of Rensselaer Award is all about." Wesner joined the Rensselaer staff in 1989 and completed a master's degree at the Institute. She holds a certificate in health systems administration and is a certified administrator in practice management. She is actively involved in many aspects of the Rensselaer community, "communiversity" events, and in area organizations such as YWCA and Habitat for Humanity. The Pillars of Rensselaer Award was established in 1993 to honor long-term staff members. Carl Westerdahl, former dean of students and director of alumni relations, provided the initial funding for the award, and employees continue to provide endowment contributions. The award recipient's name is inscribed on the base of a Tiffany crystal award that is permanently displayed in the President's Suite in the Troy Building. The recipient also receives a sterling silver pin designed by Tiffany & Co. and a $500 award. |
