| Out and About: Rensselaer Hosts Upper Hudson River Conference Rensselaer hosted the "Who's Doing What in the Upper Hudson" conference on Oct. 5 to update more than 70 attendees from more than 20 environmental conservation organizations, government agencies, and academic institutions on current Upper Hudson River research. Presentations focused on research on ecological and environmental impacts, native and invasive plants and animals, and sediment analysis and contaminants. Presented by the Hudson River Environmental Society, the conference was co-sponsored by the Rivers and Estuaries Center on the Hudson, Rensselaer's Office of Research, and Rensselaer's Darrin Fresh Water Institute. "Collaboration and communication is critical as we work to link the diverse community of scientists, educators, regulators, and the general public who are contributing to and benefiting from the science that is often a critical component of public policy decisions regarding the Hudson River ecosystems," said Sandra Nierzwicki-Bauer, chair of the external advisory committee of the Upper Hudson Satellite of the Rivers and Estuaries Center, director of the Darrin Fresh Water Institute, professor of biology at Rensselaer, and a conference chair. The conference was dedicated to the memory of Professor Ted Shuster, who conducted research on the Hudson River for more than 20 years. |
