* Rensselaer's 11th Annual Honors Convocation Oct. 15

The outstanding academic achievements of Rensselaer's students and faculty will be celebrated Friday, Oct. 15 as the campus community gathers for Rensselaer's 11th annual Honors Convocation. The ceremony, open to the entire campus community, will be held in the Alumni Sports and Recreation Center (Armory) beginning at 4 p.m.

Faculty being honored include Pulickel Ajayan, who has been named to the Henry Burlage Chaired Professorship in Engineering; Ricardo Dobry, professor of civil and environmental engineering, for his induction into the National Academy of Engineering; and the two newest members of the Future Chips Constellation — Shawn-Yu Lin, Constellation Professor, Future Chips, and Professor of Physics, Applied Physics and Astronomy; and Christian Wetzel, the Wellfleet Career Development Constellation Professor, Future Chips, and associate professor of physics, applied physics, and astronomy.

The 2004 Founders Award, the ceremony's highest honor, will be given to 70 students who have been chosen for "creativity, leadership, discovery, and the values of pride and responsibility." Other students being honored include 54 students with a 4.0 GPA, and 27 graduate student fellowship awardees.

The 287 Class of 2008 Rensselaer Medalists also will be honored. The Rensselaer Medal is awarded to the top math and science juniors at almost 3,000 high schools around the world. Those who choose to attend Rensselaer receive a $15,000-per-year Rensselaer Medal Scholarship.
