Kenneth Warriner Receives 2004 Trustees' Outstanding Teacher Award
Associate Professor of Architecture Kenneth Warriner was recognized by Rensselaer's Board of Trustees as the recipient of the 2004 Trustees' Outstanding Teacher Award during the board's fall meeting on Sept. 11.
Given annually, this award recognizes outstanding accomplishments in classroom instruction. Selection is made based on evidence of sustained outstanding teaching as reflected by student evaluations, peer evaluations, and letters of support from colleagues, alumni, and students. Nominations are sought from the Rensselaer community and reviewed by a selection committee, with final selection made by the President.
The Board of Trustees honored Warriner for "his quiet leadership, integrating social, environmental, and global concerns into the curriculum for more than 35 years."
In its citation honoring Warriner, the board noted, "You have been, and remain, committed to the ethical practice of architecture continually emphasizing the consequence of professional actions the relationship between structures and social conditions. A lifelong learner and a career-long inspiration you critically challenge accepted practice and teach your students to question the status quo. In recognition of your lasting influence on your students and your colleagues and your dedication to the discipline of architecture and the Rensselaer community, we, the Board of Trustees, congratulate you and extend out best wishes as you continue your service to Rensselaer as a member of the faculty."
Warriner's interests include architectural and urban design and theory. He joined Rensselaer in 1968.
