| Rensselaer Celebrates Reunion Weekend June 9-12 "Reunion is a chance for Rensselaer to welcome home its former students, and it provides an opportunity for classmates to reconnect with each other and the university that helped shape their lives," said Jeff Schanz, director of alumni relations. "Reunion also plays a key role in extending Rensselaer's reach beyond the borders of our campus as alumni from around the world attend and bring their families with them to share in the experience and catch up on all the latest news." On Friday, June 10, reunion events begin with alumni joining deans and faculty of each school for breakfast, followed by a Renaissance Fair showcasing new initiatives at the Institute. Sean O'Sullivan '85 will give the keynote address on Friday at 2:30 p.m. in the auditorium of the Center for Biotechnology and Interdisciplinary Studies. O'Sullivan will discuss "Engineers Without Borders," and his experience as founder of Jumpstart International, a non-governmental organization created in 2003 that focuses on rebuilding and reconstruction in war-torn Iraq. O'Sullivan is also one of the founders of MapInfo, a global software company headquartered in Rensselaer's Technology Park. The presentation is open to the campus community. President Jackson will deliver the “State of the Institute” address on Saturday, following the Rensselaer Alumni Association’s annual meeting, which begins at 9:30 a.m., in room 308 of the Darrin Communications Center. The Parade of Classes will follow at the conclusion of the president's address. The Class of 1955 will be featured, as they celebrate their 50th Reunion. Izzy Warshaw ’23, who at 103 will be celebrating his 82nd Reunion, will lead the parade from the Darrin Communications Center to the Armory. Parade participants will vie for designation as “noisiest,” “most creative,” “most colorful,” and a host of other special awards for this traditional event. The reunion all-class luncheon will be held at the conclusion of the parade. Individual class dinners will be held Saturday evening, concluding with a dance for all. Walking tours of campus, tours of the Center for Biotechnology and Interdisciplinary Studies and the Experimental Media and Performing Arts Center now under construction, and a bus tour of Troy highlighting its history as the Silicon Valley of the 19th century, will also be available. |
