| Out and About: Rensselaer Asian Student Organizations Celebrate Asian Awareness Weekend More than 400 people participated in a range of events on campus celebrating Asian Awareness weekend. The conference, organized by several Asian student organizations and a campus fraternity, is designed to celebrate Asian culture at Rensselaer and in the local community. On Friday, March 4, the conference kicked off with "Night Market" in the Rensselaer Union, showcasing a festive and colorful display of Asian culture, art, food, and games. On Saturday, March 5, the weekend program culminated in "Asian Night" in West Hall and featured a variety of dances, musical performances, skits, and fashions. According to Bryan Oliva, a chairperson of Asian Awareness weekend and a member of the Philippine American League, this year's event had even greater meaning for those involved. "The purpose of our events has always been to show a side of Asian culture that people don't normally get to see. However, in light of recent events, our new goal and priority is to raise as much money as possible to give a generous contribution to the relief efforts in Southeast Asia.” Market photos by Cindy Hui '06.
