Out and About: Big Red Freakout!
The Houston Field House was packed to the rafters on Saturday for the 27th annual Big Red Freakout hockey game. Fans covered in red watched Rensselaers Engineers take on Clarksons Golden Knights. Rensselaer scored three goals in the third period to defeat Clarkson 4-2. The Engineers extended their Freakout unbeaten streak to 14 years. The sold-out game also was broadcast live to more than 50 sites around the country for the 12th Annual Satellite Hockey Telecast.
Prior to the game, members of the 1954 NCAA Championship hockey team and famed coach Ned Harkness were honored at center ice. In honor of the 50th anniversary of the championship, the players and coach received honorary championship rings.
Before and after the game, more than 500 fans attended the annual Ice House event at the Heffner Alumni House. Attendees enjoyed a puck-shoot contest, face painting, a buffet meal pre-game, and a post-game reception with members of the team and coaching staff.
