Rensselaers men and women ice hockey players, along with numerous enthusiastic fans, friends, and members of the university community, have signed a banner supporting the ice hockey teams and Rensselaers ability to award athletic grants-in-aid to its Division I student-athletes. The banner was signed at the Houston Field House during the mens hockey games this weekend versus Yale University and Princeton University.

The banner, which reads Support Puckman, Support 65-1, encourages the adoption of an amendment that blocks a National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) proposal to eliminate the waiver allowing Division III schools to offer athletic grants-in-aid to their student-athletes who play in Division I sports. Rensselaer and the seven other affected Division III institutions that play up in a Division I sport submitted the amendment to the NCAA Nov. 1.
Rensselaer delegates to an NCAA convention Jan. 12 including President Shirley Ann Jackson, Athletic Director Ken Ralph, Associate Athletic Director Kerry Quinn, and Vice President of Student Life Eddie Ade Knowles will take the signed banner with them to the convention to show the overwhelming support for Amendment 65-1. The adoption of amendment 65-1 would nullify the offending proposal.
