Rensselaer Students Honored for Work at Wynantskill Schools Library
Rensselaer service fraternity Alpha Phi Omega (APO) received a formal pat-on-the-back Nov. 14 for the students' work this semester at the St. Jude the Apostle School in Wynantskill, N.Y. To show their gratitude to APO for helping organize the growing St. Jude library, Principal Cathleen Carney and her elementary school students presented fraternity members with an oversize, homemade thank-you card.

Earlier this year the elementary school received a large quantity of donated used books but did not have the staff to get them ready to go onto the library shelves, according to school librarian Carol Larkin. After hearing of St. Judes predicament, APO members volunteered to begin typing out book pockets, card catalog cards, and spine labels, and organizing the books using the Dewey decimal system. To date, APO members have cataloged more than 300 books for the school.
We just cant say enough for them, Larkin recently told the Troy Record newspaper. Theyre helping us grow in leaps and bounds.
APO is a national, co-ed service fraternity dedicated to the principles of leadership, friendship and service. Rensselaers APO chapter was founded in 1947, and provides many services to the local community and campus, including a used book exchange and a lost-and-found office, among others.
