Community Relations Director Named
Rensselaer
has named Allison Newman as director of community relations,
responsible for coordinating an enhanced community partnership
program and expanding local outreach efforts.
According to Larry Snavley, vice president
for government and community relations, the new director
will become an integral part of Rensselaer's efforts to
advance the proposed Center for Biotechnology and Interdisciplinary
Studies and the Electronic Media and Performing Arts Center.
Newman will work with Institute leadership
to encourage and facilitate an expanded role for faculty,
staff, and students in regional activities. "Allison
is an outstanding individual for this important new position.
She has the skills and experience needed to effectively
advance President Jackson's vision of 'communiversity,'
" said Snavley.
Newman brings expertise in marketing and
communications, and has spent a number of years working
with state government. Most recently, she was vice president
of business development at Blue Slate Solutions, a consulting
firm with a nationwide client base. Prior to that she owned
her own strategic development consulting firm in Albany.
From 1995 to 1997, Newman was director of corporate relations
for the New York State Higher Education Services Corporation,
acting as a liaison with the executive branch, the legislature,
and with academic organizations. From 1986 to 1995, Newman
worked in the Governor's Office, holding progressively responsible
positions including service as assistant appointments officer
to Governor Cuomo.
