The lodge at the Darrin Fresh Water Institute
has been transformed into a modern learning facility that
will benefit the Rensselaer and Lake George communities, as
well as the larger environmental community. Updates include
a state-of-the-art computing center, year-round student/visitor
residence rooms, and a refurbished public space suitable for
the many environmental education programs at the Institute.

The ground-to-roof renovations will allow the lodge to be
all year; the new computing tools will provide the Institute
with an improved ability to conduct the broad-based research
and education crucial to protecting Lake George. “The
new research conducted through the Darrin Fresh Water Institute
will feature collaboration at its finest,” said Rensselaer
President Shirley Ann Jackson. “It will include roboticists,
chemists, biologists, geologists, visualization, modeling,
and simulation specialists, and social scientists. The synergy
among such researchers surely will expand upon and enhance
the breakthroughs achieved here.”
