Out and About

They're Back!
The Class of 2006 revived the slumbering campus last week and became the newest members of the Rensselaer community. Moving-in day took place on Tuesday, Aug. 20, and tired students were rewarded with a "welcome barbecue" hosted by the Rensselaer Alumni Association. Freshmen also took part in a series of Navigating Rensselaer & Beyond events to help acquaint them with each other, with Rensselaer, and with the surrounding community.

Emergency Drill Held on Campus
Emergency personnel from around Rensselaer County responded to a simulated "dirty bomb" at the Houston Field House on Aug. 14. This drill involved Rensselaer County Public Safety, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Troy Fire Department, Seton Health, Northeast Health, Battalion One Decontamination Team, Rensselaer County Health Department, and the Troy Police. Students, staff, and other volunteers posed as victims exposed to low levels of radiation. Part of the training included victim decontamination.

Rensselaer County is required to stage such drills to maintain funding and the Institute agreed to host the event at the Field House. More
