Eckbreth Named Vice President and Dean
of Rensselaer at Hartford

In an announcement made via videoconference
to more than 60 Hartford faculty and staff Aug. 2, President
Jackson tapped Alan C. Eckbreth '76 to head Rensselaer at
Hartford. Eckbreth will begin his appointment as vice president
and dean Sept. 3.
Prior to coming to Rensselaer, Eckbreth
had an illustrious 34-year-long career at the United Technologies
Corporation in Hartford and held a variety of positions
there, including senior research scientist, supervisor of
laser diagnostics, and assistant director of research for
chemical sciences, to name a few. Most recently, he directed
the company's Fuel Cells Program at a center in East Hartford.
"Dr. Eckbreth is an exceptional researcher,
inventor, and engineer," said President Jackson of
Eckbreth's qualifications. "He has had long experience
and outstanding success as a leader and manager in industry.
He is firmly committed to graduate education for the working
professional and is himself an alumnus of Rensselaer at
Hartford. He is a long-time citizen of Connecticut who understands
the needs and opportunities of both the state and the region.

energy, experience, and vision."
A resident of Glastonbury, Conn., Eckbreth
holds a bachelor's degree in engineering physics from Lehigh
University, a master's degree and doctorate in aerospace
and mechanical sciences from Princeton University, and a
master's degree in administrative sciences from Rensselaer
at Hartford. He holds six patents, has published more than
60 technical papers, and is the author of Laser Diagnostics
for Combustion Temperature and Species.
